Famous Alberobello, in the interior of Puglia, can be reached in 45 minutes by car or train from Bari. You absolutely have to visit it during your trip to Puglia and the south of Italy. It has been a Unesco World Heritage site since 1996. It is the home of trulli and has no fewer than 1,400!
Have you never heard of trulli? That’s impossible! They are the characteristic constructions in central-southern Puglia, made from layering dry stones. The base is whitewashed and the roof is conical: their shape is unmistakable!
Some interesting information: each trullo is the equivalent of one room, apotropaic symbols for good luck are drawn on the roofs each year and the pinnacles can have different shapes. Naturally some trullis are still inhabited today and have been modernized.
Alberobello is divided into 2 distinct parts: the Monti, for tourists, with all tis restaurants and shops and Aia Piccola where the atmosphere is that of real village life. During the tour of this marvellous place, the guide will let you plunge into the spirit and traditions of Alberobello, naturally visiting the two parts which are so different from one another, and there will of course be the external visit to the sovereign trullo and the Sanctuary of St. Cosmas and St. Damian.
Words cannot explain how beautiful and special Alberobello is, a unique place that you absolutely have to see on your trip to Italy.
